One question you might want to ask before you start using Google Voice is: “How much do I have to pay to use it?” Well, like most of Google’s services, it’s not that expensive in terms of money. However, you must know that there are other “costs” related to it. The following platforms will introduce the cost of using Google Voice.

Is Google Voice free?

Google Voice is mostly free to use. There is no fee to sign up for an account or apply for a Google Voice number. Plus, calls to the U.S. and Canada through Google Voice are free, with a few exceptions. Calls anywhere else via Google Voice will incur a fee.

Also, keep in mind that most of Google’s revenue is not through fees and subscriptions, but through “big data” advertising – and Google Voice is no exception. Accordingly, all communications you create through or add to Google Voice are collected and processed by Google for the purposes of their business operations. We just want to make sure you know this.

• Per-minute call rates to other countries may vary.

You can check out the Google Voice price list to see current rates for Google Voice. Just click on the box labeled “Enter the country you want to call” and type in the name of the country you want to contact someone to check their rates for. Alternatively, click Show All Rates to see an alphabetical table of countries and their call rates; click a letter in the upper right corner of any table to jump to countries whose names begin with that letter.

If you want to call from a specific country and/or pay in a specific currency, you can also click the drop-down menus labeled “Currency” and “Billing Country” to change them.

What other Google Voice charges should I be aware of?

There are a few other things you might want to keep in mind when using Google Voice so you don’t get surprised by an out-of-the-box telecom bill.

• Calls do not use an Internet or data connection. This means they still count towards the allotted monthly airtime minutes of the mobile device you use to verify your account.

• If your call is made from a number that is not in your area code, you may incur long distance charges.

• If you use Google Voice outside of the US or Canada, you will be charged international rates, and you may also be charged roaming charges by your telecommunications provider.

• Text messages use a data connection, so can be sent or received at no additional cost through your Wi-Fi internet connection or your mobile device’s data plan (if available). However, depending on your telecom operator, you may be charged for text messages you receive.

How to Buy Credits for Google Voice

In order to make premium international calls using Google Voice, you need to have credit stored on your account. A maximum of $70 can be deposited into your account at one time. If you need to purchase more items, please follow the steps below.

1. Access your Google Voice account using a web browser.

Open Google Voice by navigating to www.google.com/voice in the web browser of your choice and logging into your Google Account.

2. Open the Google Voice main menu.

Click the main menu button (three vertical lines) in the upper left corner of the page.

3. Manage your Google Voice account credit.

When the main menu pane opens, click Credit.

4. Click Add Credit and select the amount of credit you wish to add to your account.

You will be taken to the Payments section of the Settings menu. From here, click Add Credit. A box will pop up; click on the credit you want to buy, then click Add Credit in the box that appears.

5. Select or add a payment method and confirm your credit purchase.

On the next page, you must choose how to pay for your credit purchases. If you don’t have a credit or debit card on your Google Account, you must add one here.

Click on each of the fields highlighted in the screenshot above and enter:

• your credit card number
• The month and year your credit card expires
• Your credit card verification code
• Your name, as it appears on your credit card
• your billing address

After entering all the information, click Buy.
