How to Import Your Outlook Mail and Contacts to Gmail

Before starting the import process, prepare your Outlook.com account by copying any messages you want to keep from the Deleted and Trash folders into your Inbox

(You probably don’t have any mail you want to keep in these folders – after all, these folders usually only contain email you want to get rid of and don’t need, but just in case).

To migrate Outlook mail, folders, and address book contacts to Gmail , follow these steps:

From your Gmail account page, click the Settings button (it looks like a gear icon) in the upper right corner of the page.

At the top of the Settings page, click the Accounts and Import tab.

In the Import Mail and Contacts section, click Import Mail and Contacts.

If you have imported before, click Import from another address.

A window will open asking which account do you want to import from? Enter your Outlook email address.

Click to continue.

Another window will open, prompting you to log into your Outlook account. Enter your Outlook account password and click the Sign In button. If successful, the window will ask you to close the window to continue.

In the window labeled Step 2: Import Options, select the desired option. these are:

Click Start Import, then click OK.

The import process will run without further assistance from you. You can continue to work in your Gmail account, or you can log out of your Gmail account; the import process will continue behind the scenes whether or not you have a Gmail account open.

The import process may take a while, or even a few days, depending on the number of emails and contacts you are importing.
